Repair (Regrowth) of Lost Tissue for Implant Placement

A key to implant success is the amount and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed. Damage from periodontal disease, pressure from wearing dentures, atrophy (shrinkage of the jawbone due to aging), injury or trauma can result in deformities of the bone leaving you with inadequate bone in which to place dental implants. Not only does this deformity cause problems with implant placement, it can also cause unattractive indentations that are difficult to clean and restore preventing a natural looking restoration. Depending upon your individual needs, the bone will be allowed to develop for about 4-6 months before implants are placed. In some cases, implants can be placed at the same time as the tissue replacement procedure. Regeneration of the bone and tissue, along with a customized home care program and proper professional cleanings, has been shown to greatly improve appearance and increase your chances for successful implant placement.
