Procedures to Rebuild Lost Tissue

Repair (Regrowth) of Lost Tissue for Implant Placement

A key to implant success is the amount and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed. Damage from periodontal disease, pressure from wearing dentures, atrophy (shrinkage of the jawbone due to aging), injury or trauma can result in deformities of the bone leaving you with inadequate bone in which to place dental implants. Not only does this deformity cause problems with implant placement, it can also cause unattractive indentations that are difficult to clean and restore, preventing a natural looking restoration. To correct this problem, a bone & tissue regeneration procedure may be necessary to build back lost tissue.

Dr. Froum has pioneered and lectured extensively on the use of different materials and techniques to grow new bone and gums for implant placement. He currently is a Clinical Professor and the Director of Research at the Department of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at the New York University Dental Center.

During treatment, Dr. Froum will numb the area and you will feel no discomfort. He will then place various materials and tissue-stimulating proteins to help your body naturally replace its lost bone and tissue. Depending upon your individual needs, the new bone will be allowed to develop for about 4-6 months before implants are placed. In some cases, implants can be placed at the same time as the tissue replacement procedure. Regeneration of the bone and tissue, along with a customized home care program and proper professional cleanings, has been shown to greatly improve appearance and increase your chances for successful implant placement. Even if you think you are not an implant candidate, this procedure can help build back lost tissue, and make implant placement an option for you.

Repair (Regrowth) of Lost Tissue Around Teeth

Damage from periodontal disease can result in severe loss of gum and bone around your teeth, causing them to become loose and/or shift position. To correct this problem, a Bone and Tissue Regeneration procedure may be necessary to reverse this loss and save your teeth.

Lost Bone

New Bone

During this treatment, Dr. Froum will numb the area and you will feel no discomfort. Dr. Froum then removes the disease-causing bacteria and infection. He will then place specific regenerative materials and tissue-stimulating proteins to help your body naturally heal and regrow bone and tissue.

Dr. Froum has pioneered and lectured extensively on the use of different materials and techniques to grow new bone and gums around teeth with advanced bone and gum tissue loss. He currently is a Clinical Professor and the Director of Research at the Department of Implant Dentistry at the New York University Dental Center. In both 2003 and 2004 he won clinical awards for his work in growing new support around teeth with bone and gum tissue loss.

Regeneration of the bone and tissue, along with a customized home care program and proper professional cleanings, will greatly increase your chances of keeping your natural teeth and preserving your smile.
